(Plainview, NY) — The parents of a Long Island native taken hostage by Hamas are hoping now that the leader of terror group is dead, he will finally be freed. Omer Neutra grew up in Plainview and- joined the Israeli army right before he was taken captive by Hamas terrorists on October 7th 2023. Omer’s father, Ronen says they’ve been hearing all along that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar had been the major obstacle in reaching a deal for the hostages. Now that he is dead, the Neutras are wondering if Omer will be freed.
Any hope for a ceasefire in the Middle East may be on hold after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to press on with the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. On Thursday, President Biden said now was a good time for a Gaza ceasefire following the death of Sinwar.
