(Tampa, FL) — Hurricane Milton is forecast to make landfall in Florida’s Gulf Coast late Wednesday as a Category 4 storm with 155 miles per hour winds. Governor Ron DeSantis says Milton is a monster, and everyone being asked to evacuate should do so right away. Estimates are more than a half a million Floridians are in the path of Milton and will be told to find shelter far from the hurricane.
Tampa International Airport is closed in anticipation of Milton. More than one hundred storm riders are expected to stay in the terminals, so they can conduct a damage assessment of the airfield after the hurricane moves out.
The White House says the federal government is preparing to lend support as Milton approaches. They say FEMA has the funding needed to respond to the hurricane and the rebuilding effort afterwards.
