(New York, NY) — There are reports that striking dockworkers along the Gulf and East coasts are returning to work. Sources say members of the International Longshoremen’s Association and management groups have reached a tentative deal on wages. The dockworkers will be back on the job at ports on Friday.

According to the reports, the two sides are agreeing to extend the expired contract until January 15th. Fifty-thousand union members working from Maine to Texas walked off the job early Tuesday morning. The strike had led to uncertainty about the movement of supplies as the nation heads into the holiday season.

Some 50,000 dock workers walked off the job on Tuesday (October 1, 2024) over wages and automation of jobs.
