(Queens, NY) — A staffer in the Queens District Attorney’s Office is under arrest for allegedly trying to blow up a migrant shelter near his apartment. Police say Derek Klever has been arrested after he attempted to make a homemade bomb to blow up the shelter in Elmhurst. Klever worked as a trial preparation assistant in the DA’s office. Police say he was upset about the noise coming from the hostel across from his apartment that has been temporarily turned into a migrant shelter. A raid on Klever’s residence turned up fireworks and other bomb-making materials.
Police say it was Klever’s fiancé who let them search the couple’s apartment last week. Inside they found a BB gun and fireworks. A more intense search turned up bomb-making materials, and BB pellets.
