(New York, NY) — Suicide levels remain at about the highest level in history. CDC data reports nearly 50-thousand suicide deaths in 2023, but when investigations are concluded, that number could increase. Suicide was the 11th leading cause of death in all age groups in the U.S. in 2021 and 2022, and more prevalent among those aged 10 to 34.

Suicide rates did go down among boys and young men ages 10 to 24 between 2020 and 2022, but the number of suicides by men over 24 went up during the same time frame. Overdoses were once the leading method of suicide for women, but beginning in 2022 firearms were the number way women took their lives.
