(New York, NY) — Mayor Adams is expected to be make his first court appearance today since being indicted on federal charges on Thursday. He’s said that he will plead not guilty at his arraignment in Lower Manhattan to conspiracy wire fraud and bribery charges. His lawyer says Adams has done no wrong.
The federal indictment unsealed on Thursday claims the mayor accepted first class flights and hotel stays from Turkey without disclosing the gifts as required by law. He’s also accused of accepting millions of dollars in improper campaign contributions.
Reaction continues to pour in to the indictment. City Councilwoman Tiffany Caban is among a growing group of lawmakers telling Adams to resign. Governor Hochul, who has the power to remove Adams from office, says she’s monitoring the situation, calling it concerning.
