AOC Says Mayor Adams Should Resign

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called on New York City Mayor Eric Adams to resign, as multiple FBI investigations swirl around City Hall. September 25, 2024.

(New York, NY) – In recent weeks, as FBI agents have raided the homes of some of his top staff members, questions have started to arise — will New York City Mayor Eric Adams resign? Adams has remained steadfast that he won’t — saying he’s “stepping up,” not “stepping down.”

Yet the speculation remains. City Councilwoman Tiffany Caban became the first local lawmaker to call on Adams to step aside. Now, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says the same thing: Adams should resign. There have not been any charges leveled against Mayor Adams, but there’s plenty of heat around his administration these days. Ex-NYPD commissioner Edward Caban had his home raided by agents before his resignation. Even the interim NYPD commissioner had his Upper East Side home raided.

That came after several top Adams’ staffers had their homes raided and electronics seized. Earlier this year, federal agents stopped Adams and took his cell phones. Yet, there have been no formal accusations brought against him.

One of the ongoing inquiries involving federal authorities centers on Adams’ 2021 campaign and its fundraising efforts. Some reports have suggested that “straw donors” were illegally used to skirt campaign finance rules.

Mayor Adams responded, “For anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crimes should not be in jail to now say that the second Black mayor of New York should resign because of rumors and innuendo, without even a single charge being filed, is the height of hypocrisy.”
