New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan

(New York, NY) – New York City’s Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan is resigning after nearly two-and-a-half years. Dr. Vasan, who’s stepping down at the end of the year, says he’s well aware of other high-profile city hall departures, but says his decision is purely personal.
Vasan says he has three children, all under the age of eleven, and they need their Dad. Vasan took over the post as the city’s top doctor in March of 2022. He informed his staff of his decision to step down on Monday (September 23, 2024).
In a statement, Mayor Eric Adams referred to Dr. Vasan as “indispensable” and added that he appreciates the doctor’s decision to stay on until the end of the year and to help the city find a successor.
