(New York, NY) – Federal authorities recently searched the home of New York City’s newly appointed interim police commissioner, Thomas Donlon. Agents seized materials reportedly unrelated to his work with the NYPD. Donlon, who assumed the role just one week ago following the resignation of his predecessor, issued a statement on Saturday confirming the search, which took place on September 20.

In his statement, Donlon said federal agents took materials that had come into his possession around 20 years ago, but emphasized they were unrelated to his duties as police commissioner. He added that the investigation is not a department matter, and the NYPD would not comment further.

The search is the latest in a series of federal investigations involving top city officials in Mayor Eric Adams’ administration. Just over a week ago, former police commissioner Edward Caban resigned after federal authorities seized his electronic devices as part of an investigation which also involved his brother.

In recent weeks, federal agents have also confiscated phones from other city officials, including the head of public schools, David Banks, and Adams’ top public safety adviser, Phil Banks. Despite the searches, no charges have been filed.

Donlon, a former FBI counterterrorism official, had no prior experience with the NYPD before being appointed by Mayor Adams. The FBI and U.S. attorney’s office have not provided further details on the investigation.
