(Brooklyn, NY) – After his arrest earlier this week in New York City, hip hop and business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is trying to get moved to a different jail. Charged with sex trafficking and other crimes, Combs is being held at the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center — located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
The MDC has been plagued by power outages, maggot-infested food, and other deplorable conditions in recent years. A former warden has also suggested that Combs faces a heightened threat of violence. In theory some of the other inmates would see it as a “badge of honor” to attack such a well known individual.
On Wednesday, Combs was denied bail for a second time. Prosecutors say he’s a major flight risk and it would appear the judge agrees. Previously known by the moniker “Puff Daddy” — the 54-year-old rapper and producer is in special protection, or a special section of the jail. It offers an extra level of security for celebrities and high-profile inmates. Combs’ attorneys argue this also means their client has limited access to the legal library and a limited ability to use his phone. They say that makes preparation for trial difficult.
A judge said the Bureau of Prisons must decide if Combs can be moved to a different jail.
