Artifacts from New York City's storied Chelsea Hotel will hit the auction block next week. September 18, 2024.

(New York, NY) – Music fans may want to break out their credit card when a number of items hit the auction block next week. They were all collected from New York City’s storied Chelsea Hotel — where a number of rock and roll icons spent time over the years.

Included in the items that will be auctioned off are Janis Joplin’s hotel room door. The hard-rockin’ singer from Texas once lived there. There will also be stained glass windows, neon hotel signs, and other physical structures from the hotel available. Guernsey’s auction house is handling the event.

If Janis Joplin isn’t as much your speed, fans of folk icon Bob Dylan will be intrigued by some other items. That includes original tape recordings of Dylan, who made his home at the hotel during the 1960s — which was the Chelsea Hotel’s heyday.

Other rockers spent time living there, such as Jimi Hendrix, Patti Smith, and Sid Vicious. A guitar once owned by Madonna will be auctioned off. So will early portraits completed by pop art legend Andy Warhol.
