mixcollage-17-sep-2024-10-26-am-6560

McDonalds character Grimace now has an official seat at Citi Field in Queens -- after he sparked a run from the New York Mets, following early season struggles. September 17, 2024.

(Queens, NY) – Heads up, Mets fans. There’s a purple seat out at Citi Field. Although the franchise is synonymous with blue and orange — the team’s new city connect uniforms from Nike do include purple, an homage to the 7 train. But this purple seat has nothing to do with public transportation.

Instead, it’s all about that lovable McDonald’s mascot Grimace. If you’re not among the Flushing Faithful, you may not be aware he’s also the Mets good luck charm.

It was back in June when Grimace threw out the first pitch, leading to an in-season turnaround for the Mets. At the time the team was mired in a long slump and was well under .500, and buried in the standings. But on June 12, Grimace’s birthday — he sparked a seven-game winning streak. And the Mets have decided to turn around and honor Grimace in return.

In section 302, just below the Coca Cola corner, Row 6, seat 12 is now purple and emblazoned with Grimace’s signature. The seat — 6, 12 — honors his b-day. Plus, the Mets say fans can buy a ticket for the Grimace seat when its available.
