(Old Saybrook, CT) — One man is dead, two others are missing after a packed boat slammed into a jetty in Old Saybrook, Connecticut Monday night. Nine people were onboard the motorboat when the accident took place near the mouth of the Connecticut river just after 9 p.m. Six were fished from the water and brought to shore. An adult man was found dead near the crashed boat. Crews are back in the river today looking for two other boaters that were missing as of last night.
One first responder at the scene believes the captain of the boat may have been speeding right before the deadly crash. Crews from the Coast Guard searched the waters into late Monday night and then called off the search till daylight again. Police have not released the names of the man who was killed or the two that are missing.
