(New Jersey) – People from all around the tri-state area have flocked to New Jersey (for once) this week to celebrate the fare holiday granted by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. The move comes as a gesture of appreciation after a tough summer for NJ transit commuters with constant cancellations and delays. The fare waiver applies to all NJ Transit services, including buses, trains, and light rail.
Many are using the fare holiday to visit places they’ve never been before. Some of these places include Philadelphia, Liberty State Park, The Jersey Shore, Hoboken and even Morristown. One Reddit user said they’ll be traveling to New Jersey just for the heck of it, “Might even just go to NJ for the sake of trying different restaurants or stores we don’t have here. Even just for cheaper groceries. To go to Wawa. or Walmart. Basically activities it’s not worth paying a train or bus fare for, but now that it’s free, why not!”
Another user said they made a day trip out of it, just for some Chinese food, “I rode from Dover to Secaucus to Edison to get Chinese food and dessert then went back home (2hrs each way).”
