(Brooklyn, New York) – Residents and activists are searching for answers and rallying their money together after vandal(s) tore up the hottest spot in Brooklyn. The Bed-Stuy hydrant-puddle goldfish pond is a small spot on the NE corner of Tompkins Ave. & Hancock street where hundreds of goldfish reside in the puddle of a leaky fire-hydrant, and new & trendy spot dubbed, the ‘Bed-Stuy Aquarium.’
The attraction which gained popularity by going viral across social media was called cruel by many online, others considered it a fantastic use of nature. The fish-fantasy was decked out with colorful pebbles, shells and a bright red light.
The vandals of the aquarium left 5 fish lifeless on the sidewalk and made a mess of the pebbles. One neighbor in the area tried to save the fish, but got there too late. The creators of the ‘Bed-Stuy Aquarium’ made it clear they’re not afraid of the vandal, by the end of the day the pond was back to normal.
The organizers are hoping to install plexiglass and solar panels to ensure a more permanent structure for the pond in the coming months. They even created a GoFundMe account to set up a proper display for the fish which has gained thousands of dollars. The creators of the ‘attraction’ say it brings the community together, and it’s for the kids. On September 1st, they will be hosting a school supplies, backpack giveaway and “goldfish adoption” event.
