(Los Angeles, CA) – Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes!? Actually in this case — it’s not a green reptile, it’s just cold, hard, cash. At a recent auction, the hat worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom sold for more than $600,000.
Made specifically for the 1984 film, the brown felt fedora officially sold for $630,000 in LA. “Temple of Doom” followed up the highly successful “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” as the second film in the Indiana Jones franchise. The architect and professor sometimes known as “Indy” held his fedora as one of his most prized possessions, routinely risking loss of life and limb to retrieve it. Based on the auction sale price, that seems like it was a good financial move, as well.
In addition to being word by Ford, the hat was also reportedly used during additional photography — at the production facility of producer and legendary filmmaker George Lucas. Also, Ford’s stunt double — Dean Ferrandini — wore the hat during filming. Ferrandini just passed away last week.
The Herbert Johnson Hat Company of London created the hat. It notably has a “more tapered” crown when compared to the hat first word by Ford. The hat’s inside lining features gold monogrammed initials “IJ”.
