What the Heck Is “Pink Cocaine”?

(New York, NY) – Authorities are announcing a new concern when it comes to drugs. Apparently, “pink cocaine” is a thing these days — and it’s making the rounds in New York City clubs.

In addition to its pink-based nickname, it’s known as “Tusi” on the streets. Pink cocaine first appeared in New York during January 2023. Also, a woman was recently arrested by cops in New York City after she tried to sell the drug nationwide via messaging apps.

Narcotics experts explain that drug dealers are adding food coloring to the powdered drugs, making it more appealing to some buyers — many of whom are younger. It’s also not really cocaine. The DEA says they’ve tested “pink cocaine” and discovered various cocktails: methamphetamine and ecstasy during one test. Another sample turned up ketamine. Basically, the haphazard mixing and matching of drugs can be especially dangerous, because these are a mix of “uppers” and “downers.” That can put a major strain on people’s systems and lead to heart attack or overdose.

This isn’t the first time authorities have sounded the alarm about cocaine in New York City clubs. As fentanyl has become more widespread over the past decade or so, cops have warned a single hit of cocaine could be deadly. A piece of fentanyl the size of a sand grain can be enough to kill adults in some cases.
