(Albany, NY) – Robert F. Kennedy is being kept off the ballot in New York State — at least for now. The Independent presidential candidate won’t be listed as an option for the Empire State’s voters, following a ruling from a court in Albany. The court’s decision says that because Kennedy Jr. is not a resident of New York, but rather a resident of California.
This stems from a challenge filed by the Democratic party in a lawsuit. Kennedy Jr. had listed a home in Westchester County as his residence. But neighbors reported they had not seen Kennedy Jr. there recently, and records indicate the property is owned by a friend of the politician. According to the court, RFK Jr. had submitted a “false statement,” on his ballot — leading to his disqualification.
It’s expected that Kennedy Jr. will appeal the decision. And it’s also likely that other Democrat lawsuits will follow a similar track in trying to get RFK Jr. disqualified. The trend suggests Democrats are worried Kennedy Jr. will take votes away from Vice President Kamala Harris.
