(New York, NY) – After Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her pick for running mate, people started to wonder: who will play Walz on SNL? We already know that former cast member Maya Rudolph will rejoin the reprise her role as Harris.
But what about Walz? Many immediately said the Minnesota gov bears a resemblance to Steve Martin — a former cast member in his own right, who has hosted SNL 15 times. Martin says yes — he was offered the gig. Yet he’s not gonna do it: he offered a firm “no” to show creator and producer Lorne Michaels.
Martin, known for his standup comedy, as well as his banjo playing in addition to a multitude of iconic films, told Michaels “he’s not an impressionist.” He also suggested SNL needs someone who can do a good likeness of Walz — not just someone that kind of looks like him. Martin claims his selection and being offered the road just comes down to his having “gray hair and glasses.”
Actor James Austin Johnson has been playing former President Trump in recent episodes of SNL. Previously, Long Island native Alec Baldwin donned the orange makeup and blonde wig. There’s no concrete reports on who could play US Senator from Ohio and Republican VP nominee JD Vance.
