(Washington, DC) — The two astronauts who traveled to the International Space Station on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft back in June, may be be stuck in space until early next year. The astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were originally scheduled to return after an eight day trip, but the Starliner has a host of problems that makes it unsafe to fly back to earth. Issues with helium leaks and thruster failures have forced the astronauts to remain aboard the International Space Station indefinitely.
NASA says they will continue to work out the problems and test the the Starliner, but wont fly it home if they deem the trip too risky. SpaceX’s Crew Dragon is set to fly to the International Space Station in February. Wilmore and William may have to wait to hitch a ride home on that rocket.
