(New York, NY) — Port Authority police are ramping up their efforts to tackle those who don’t pay bridge and tunnel tolls. They have stepped up enforcement actions over the past six months. According to the agency, more than 4,800 tickets have been issued at its bridge and tunnel crossings since the beginning of the year. That’s a 55 percent rise compared to the same period last year.

The tickets were handed out to drivers who collectively owe over $4 million in unpaid tolls. In addition to the hefty fines, law enforcement has also arrested dozens of individuals found using fraudulent license plates to avoid detection. The Port Authority says the crackdown underscores their commitment to ensuring fair toll collection and maintaining the integrity of its operations.
