(Palm Springs, CA) – Call it a win for modesty. Or, if you’re a big more judgmental — the prudes have won. Following outcry, the 26-foot-tall “Forever Marilyn” statue in Palm Springs, California will be moved.
The statue depicts Marilyn Monroe during the famous skirt scene from the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch,” which was filmed in New York City. Since being set up in Palm Springs since 2021, locals have lodged complaints. They say the statue’s racy nature is inappropriate — especially since so many children routinely walk past it. The backside of Monroe’s underwear is in plain view. But many visitors to the area disagreed that the statue should be moved, saying it made for great photo opportunities.
So the statue will be moved — but it’s not going far. From its current location downtown in Palm Springs, “Forever Marilyn” will be tucked away at the back of the one-point-five-acre property, away from the sidewalk.
