(Brooklyn, NY) – A criminal complaint unsealed in Brooklyn federal court accuses a Pakistani man of trying to organize a plot to kill former President Trump. Although Trump is not named in the court document, multiple sources have apparently told ABC News that the plot centered on harming or killing the former president. The criminal complaint further alleges that the accused, Asif Merchant, has ties to Iran.
Merchant, of Pakistan, allegedly spent time in Iran and then flew from Pakistan to the US. From there, Merchant is accused of trying to contact hitmen. But the person he contacted was a confidential informant who was working with the FBI. Merchan, who is 46 years old, has been officially charged with murder for hire.
