(New York, New York) – Most of the outdoor dining sheds that sprouted up around New York City during the pandemic are about to disappear. Restaurants in the City had until this past weekend to apply for permits to keep their outdoor dining sheds. For those who didn’t apply before the deadline, a hefty $500 fine is headed their way if they don’t take down their sheds.
City officials say fewer than three-thousand applications had been submitted by Saturday afternoon hours before the deadline. Around thirteen-thousand restaurants had participated in the temporary outdoor dining program established during the pandemic.
