(Beirut/Iran) – Two leaders from both Hamas and Hezbollah were killed in airstrikes Tuesday into Wednesday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that one of Hamas’ most senior officials, Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Iran by a missile strike. Earlier a top Hezbollah commander, Fuad Shukr was killed in a missile attack in Beirut. Israel claimed responsibility for the missile attack in Lebanon. No one has claimed responsibility for the strike in Iran.
Hamas released a statement saying Haniyeh was killed, “in a Zionist airstrike on his residence in Tehran after he participated in the inauguration of Iran’s new president.”
Shukr was reportedly behind Saturday’s missile attack inside Israel that killed 12 children. He is also believed to be one of the masterminds behind the 1983 bombing of a U.S. Marine compound in Beirut that killed 241 American servicemen
