The poster and trailer for Audrey Diwan’s “Emmanuelle” has dropped, ahead of its world premiere screening on September 20th at the San Sebastian Film Festival. The film features Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Woman on Fire), Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote Vs. the Swans) and Will Sharpe (The White Lotus Season 2).
The film, shot in Hong Kong, is freely adapted from Emmanuelle Arsan’s novel of the same name, ‘casting a female gaze on the intimate quest of the woman whose name still evokes one cinema’s most provocative characters’ (per Variety,). Arsan’s novel was previously adapted as a 1974 film, starring Sylvia Kristel.
The film follows Emmanuelle (Merlant), a woman who travels to Hong Kong for a business trip, exploring her desires during her time at a luxury hotel in the region. Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Chacha Huang and Anthony Wong also star in the film.
