(Washington, D.C) — President Biden will not run for another term. With less than four months to go till election day, the president posted a letter on his Twitter page announcing his plan to step aside and let someone else run. Biden endorsed his Vice-President, Kamala Harris to be the new nominee.
The 81-year-old’s exit from the race comes a little more than a month after a terrible debate performance against former President Donald Trump in Atlanta. Biden appeared incoherent at times during the face off. Democrats afterwards began talking about replacing him with a younger candidate.
Biden’s withdrawal is expected to set off a free-for-all for the Democratic nomination for president. It’s unclear who will step forward to run, or how delegates, who had committed to Biden will make a decision on a new candidate. Vice President Kamala Harris will likely lead the pack of Democrats who want to run against Trump.
President Biden said he would talk more about his decision to leave to race later this week.
