(New York, NY) – When students return to class in the fall, they are now getting a whole new look. The City Council passed a measure on Thursday to implement a uniform dress code across public schools.

Previously, school dress codes varied from school to school. That raised eyebrows with some council members as they say they are concerned over the varying enforcement of the policies and LGBTQ+ discrimination.

The details of the policy have to be worked out by the Department of Education. However, officials say they will be working in collaboration with students to make sure that the new city standards are inclusive and reflective of this generation of student’s fashion choices.
