(New York, NY) – A spokesperson for the police department said that the “CPR” motto of “Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect” is being replaced. The slogan was first introduced by former Mayor Rudy Guiliani in 1996 to build public trust in the department and restore their reputation following criticism of the policies of then-Police Commissioner William Bratton.

The “CPR” that is seen on cop cars will now be replaced with a new motto: “Fighting Crime, Protecting the Public”. The words will be placed on new patrol vehicles costing more than the old decals. In total the new motto costs over $2,000 per cop car to install. This is a steep rise in costs, around $1,300 more than the old adhesives.

The reason for the change is not clear or if other police units like the city’s Environmental Protection force will also be changing their slogan of “Dedication, Excellence, Pride”. The newer cop cars are also getting donned with the flag of the NYPD along with a QR code where members of the public can rate the police.
