(Parkland, FL) – As part of a civil settlement in connection to the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, admitted killer Nikolas Cruz has agreed to donate his brain to science. According to court documents, the unusual stipulation was first suggested by 21-year-old victim Anthony Borges. He was shot five times in the back during Cruz’ attack, which unfolded on Valentine’s Day 2018, in Parkland, Florida.

The mass shooting remains one of the deadliest in US history. Cruz, using a long gun rifle, entered the high school and massacred 17 students and staffers. He’s since been convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

This civil settlement, following the lawsuit brought by Borges, also stipulates Cruz cannot grant interviews or make a deal with film producers without permission. Lawyers for Borges say their goal in reaching the settlement was to eliminate Cruz’ ability to further harm his victims from prison.
