(New York, NY) – The MTA says the crackdown on ghost plates has led to hundreds of arrests and the impounding of well over 1,000 vehicles so far this year. MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber was joined today by NYPD transportation, Port Authority and other partners in announcing the results of 25 joint enforcement operations.
The crackdown has led to more than 300 arrests and the impounding of more than 1500 vehicles so far this year. Lieber adds they also issued around 12,000 summonses. The most recent crackdowns on fake or covered plates were held at the Queens Midtown Tunnel and the Williamsburg, RFK and Bronx Whitestone bridges.
