(New York, NY) – The 48th annual Macy’s 4th of July fireworks in New York City marks a return to the Hudson River for the first time since 2013. The NYPD is prepared to keep crowds safe from any sort of violence or terrorism and will have more officers than in previous years deployed on July 4th. July 2nd, the NYPD reviewed logistics with partner agencies at police headquarters.
The Counterterrorism Maritime Unit has new technology at its disposal. High-speed boats with radiation bomb detectors, drones, and more. There are no specific or known threats to New York City or the Macy’s Fireworks on Thursday, but police say it’s important to be on high alert.
The barges will be positioned between West 14th to West 34th streets with the public assembled on the West Side Highway, which will be closed. The 25 minute fireworks show is scheduled to kick off at 9:25pm Thursday July 4th
