Former President Trump’s Sentencing Delayed

news-day-9-trump-hush-money-trial

Apr 30, 2024; New York, NY, USA; Former US President Donald Trump sits in court prior to his trial, April 30 2024.

(New York, NY) – Following the US Supreme Court’s decision concerning presidential immunity, former President Trump is attempting to have his conviction tossed for falsified business records. Trump’s attorneys requested the conviction be overturned as a result of the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision, which maintains president’s are immune from criminal prosecution, provided they are carrying out their official duties.

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg indicated he was not opposed to a delay, in order for the immunity motion to be heard. He requested a delay no later than July 24, after sentencing was first set for July 11. Now, sentencing will be carried out in September. Trump could be imprisoned, put under house arrest, or put on probation — following his conviction for falsified business records.

But in terms of the overarching motion, Trump’s attorneys argue evidence was allowed during the trial that should not have been — given presidential immunity.
