(Dedham, MA) – The jury in the high-profile Karen Read murder trial is hopelessly deadlocked and a mistrial has been declared. Read is accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend John O’Keefe in late January 2022. Prosecutors say she hit him with her SUV and then left him to die during a snowstorm.
This happened in Dedham, Massachusetts. But Read and her defense attorneys argued that she was framed by corrupt cops. She claims to have dropped O’Keefe off at a friend’s home before his eventual death. Read has received support from some people who have paid close attention to the proceedings, some of which are convinced she was framed.
Meanwhile, the judge ordered Read’s attorneys to return to court in the coming months. Prosecutors may opt to try the defendant again in a bid to reach a verdict.
