(New York, NY) – New York City’s annual Pride Parade steps off on Sunday in Lower Manhattan. As Pride Month comes to a close, the march begins at 25th Street and 5th Avenue at noon.
Motorists should be aware there are multiple road closures that will be in effect. Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Inn uprising in 1969, which many agree marked the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. In general, LGBTQ+ history, marriage equality, and other aspects of gay culture are highlighted throughout the month.
Pride Month has also been criticized for its in-your-face nature and sometimes over commercialization. To kick off the weekend, President Biden visited Stonewall. He also hosted a fundraiser event alongside legendary musician and gay icon Elton John.
