(New York, NY) — New York City public schools may ban phones from the classroom next year.  The move comes after Los Angeles public schools announced this week that it will lock up students phones during the school day, saying they are too much of a distraction. Governor Hochul says she is considering instituting the phone ban statewide.

Some schools across the city have kept phone bans in place after Mayor Michael Bloomberg first introduced them back in 2006.

New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks says he thinks he can get a new phone ban in place by January of 2025. Banks says they still need to sort out the details of how it would work.
