Report: FBI Looking at Mayor Adams’ China Trips

A new report from the New York Post says the FBI is looking into trips Mayor Eric Adams previously took to China.

(New York, NY) – A bombshell report from the New York Post suggests Mayor Eric Adams is being looked at for trips he took to China in the past. The newspaper’s report cites sources by saying the FBI and Manhattan federal prosecutors are involved. Apparently Adams took upward of seven trips to mainland China during his time in public office.

The Post says there’s one trip in particular being looked at by investigators. It was apparently at least partially funded by the Chinese Communist Party. That trip reportedly occurred while Adams was serving as Brooklyn Borough President, prior to his election as mayor. But a spokesman for Mayor Adams contacted 77 WABC to say the one, most significant trip in question was cleared by the city’s conflict of interest board — ten years ago.

Fabien Levy, the mayor’s top communications director, provided this statement: “This story is plain false. The reporter was advised on the record that no private sector exists and that the trip was planned and reported through official government emails and then approved by the Conflicts of Interest Board (the city’s ethics watchdog) in writing. All documents proving these documents were previously provided in a Freedom of Information request and the current Borough President’s Office chose not to provide them for reasons unknown. The New York Post even reported on this trip a decade ago when it took place. What’s more is that the reporter conflates investigations, jurisdictions, and chose to ignore the truth. This is pure clickbait.”

One of the most potentially significant aspects of the Post’s report is that it suggests Adams used hidden servers or email addresses while conducting business related to the trips. The Post says Adams used unofficial email addresses and even deleted records connected to some trips. City Hall’s spokesman says that’s a mischaracterization of the situation, in that while Adams used a personal email at times while he was Brooklyn borough president — the planning for the China trip was done through official accounts.

Meanwhile, a couple months back, Mayor Adams responded to a reporter’s question as to how many trips to China he has taken. At that time, Adams said he couldn’t recall the number — which some found curious.
