(White Plains, NY) – Westchester County Executive George Latimer has defeated incumbent Congressman Jamaal Bowman in New York’s 16th Congressional district. Latimer, who has never lost an election previously, emerged as a primary challenger — especially after Bowman pulled a fire alarm at a US Capitol building — delaying a vote.
Bowman initially denied he had done it but then admitted he had. Also, and perhaps more significantly, Bowman was vocally anti-Israel and pro-Palestine in the wake of the October 7 terrorist attacks launched by Hamas. That may have done Bowman in. Also he held a bizarre rally in the Bronx where he used profane language and blasted the influence of AIPAC — the Jewish/pro-Israel lobby group.
To be fair to Bowman’s point there, AIPAC did pour millions of dollars into the race to oppose the incumbent. It’s largely expected Latimer will cruise to a win in the general election given the left-leaning nature of Westchester County and the Bronx — which covers the 16th district.
