(New York, New York) – Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States, celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the freedom of enslaved people across the country. Juneteenth commemorates the day which the U.S Army moved into Texas, declaring over 250,000 slaves free, to enforce what had already been the law of the land for two and a half years. The holiday also goes by Jubilee Day, Emancipation day or Black Independence Day. To stand with solidarity and celebrate the holiday, many wear red which signifies resilience amid bondage. Juneteenth cheer will be spread across the City all day with free performances to celebrate the holiday.
