(Beirut, Lebanon) – A gunman fired shots at the U.S embassy in Beirut, Lebanon early Wednesday morning. The shots set-off a firefight between troops outside the embassy where the attacker, a Syrian national, was wounded and shot in the stomach.
The attacker was detained and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment while troops searched the area for any others.
This comes after heightened tensions in the region as the Israel-Hamas war continues their war in Gaza.
The Lebanese Army says a security guard at the embassy was also reportedly wounded but the staff inside is safe and the attacker is not connected to any major terrorist organization.
