(New York, NY) – For the first time in US history, a former president has been convicted of a criminal crime. Former President Trump, the nation’s 45th president and the leading Republican candidate for the White House in 2024, was convicted on 34 counts. Manhattan prosecutors alleged he falsified business records, and 12 New Yorkers agreed.
This dates back to 2016 and a non-disclosure agreement that was allegedly signed with Stormy Daniels — a former adult film actress. Trump denies the two ever had a sexual encounter, but Daniels testified the two hooked up back in 2006.
So now that Trump has been convicted he faces potential jail time, a fine, or probation. He has no previous convictions on his criminal record. If he is jailed he’d still be eligible to run for office as the Constitution only specifies age, citizenship, and residency requirements.
President Biden plans to address the nation from the White House concerning the guilty verdict. He’s routinely framed Trump as a “threat to democracy,” and will undoubtedly make Trump’s conviction a centerpiece of his campaign.
