(Atlantic City, New Jersey) – Over 60 roosters were rescued and taken to shelters after a cockfighting ring was busted up down at the Jersey Shore. Each bird had razor blades attached to their wings to be used as a weapon against the other birds while fighting. Shelter workers had to slowly remove the blades one-by-one with a wire cutter. The shelter is refusing to say where the cockfighting took place, because the case is still under investigation. A nearby shelter took in 4 of the birds. The Funny Farm Rescue and Sanctuary are caring for the rest.
Over 50 people were arrested. Officials also seized over $37,000 in cash at the location. The cockfighting organizers had constructed a ring complete with “spectator-style seating” and cockfighting kits.
