(New York, New York) – Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Zoo reopened this past week after an eight month closure. Zoo visitors were welcomed with a small surprise, a pair of South American Pudu Deer. The uncommon species is known as the smallest deer in the world, they can weigh up to 25 pounds. The zoo unveiled an 8-year-old male and a 1-year-old female.
Although they’re cute, the zoo has more to offer besides the baby Pudu. Other new animals are three baby female Hamadryas baboons located in the Animal Lifestyles building. The zoo had to close temporarily last September due to flood damage Some buildings experiencing as much as 25 feet of water. None of the 400 animals in the zoo were impacted.
