More Americans smoke weed daily than the number of daily drinkers.

(Washington, DC) – The National Survey on Drug Use and Health has a new survey out that might surprise some people. Apparently, more Americans use marijuana on a daily basis when compared to the number of people who drink alcohol everyday. This comes after the Biden administration announced plans to reclassify cannabis on the federal level — potentially downgrading it from its current status — which is on the same level as heroin.
Nearly 18 million Americans use marijuana in some fashion daily, which is higher than the 15 million who drink at the same rate. That’s looking at 2022 numbers. Over the past three decades, the number of people who drink daily was always higher than the number of smokers.
Meanwhile, New York City officials are cracking down on illegal pot shops — meaning places that operate without a license. Over the first week of that effort, 75 spots were padlocked and closed down.
