(New York, New York) – Applause were heard around the block after FDNY firefighter Kevin Paulicelli walked out of Jacobi Medical Center all on his own on Sunday. Two days prior he suffered respiratory arrest and was rushed to the Bronx hospital while fighting a house fire. The 38-year-old collapsed to the floor in the house after struggling to breath until his fellow firefighters dragged him out. Two medics began administering a life-saving drug, hydroxocobalamin. Paulicelli called it a “miracle drug” outside the hospital on Sunday. The drug is typically used to reverse the effects of cyanide poisoning, a serious complication of smoke inhalation. The blaze took nearly two hours to get under control. No cause of the fire has been discovered.
