(New York, New York) – NYPD cops have had enough, and it’s showing. According to data gathered by the New York Post around 200 cops are leaving the force every month. The current count is at 33,695 officers. The lowest number on the force since the 90’s. It may get worse, retirements are surging at 11% this year. In April alone, 566 officers handed over their badge and gun, which doesn’t line up well compared to last year where 508 punched out in the first four months of the year.
Just last Thursday, 27 cops resigned. One of the police unions has proposed incentives to keep their officers on the front lines. A new flexible schedule for their officers where they’ll work less days but more hours. The union says, their officers are exhausted after constantly being held past their scheduled shifts. They responded to 2,400 protests just since Oct 7, and handled an average of 12 demonstrations a day.
