(San Francisco, CA) – Is Tesla responsible for poor air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area? Local officials there say yes. The local air district has accused the e-vehicle giant of pumping thousands of tons of illegal pollutants into the atmosphere in recent years. Tesla has a plant in Fremont, California which is where the allegations center on.
Dating back to 2019, Tesla has received more than 100 notices of violation. The air district is now handing the situation over to its enforcement arm, which will trigger a hearing within its board, and the potential issuing of an abatement order. Apparently the Fremont plant’s paint shop is what the potential abatement order would target, as it has been the source for many of the 100 violation notices.
The air district is more or less asking its hearing board to compel action from Tesla.
