(Newark, NJ) — The average arrival delay at Newark Liberty National Airport was more than five hours Thursday (May 1, 2025). That’s according to the FAA, which says staffing issues and runway construction are to blame.
The agency issued a ground stop Thursday morning which was lifted around 10 a.m. Hundreds of flights have been delayed, canceled or diverted.
An air traffic control outage around 1 a.m. and weather in other parts of the country are reportedly adding to the travel woes. Meanwhile, departure delays are averaging around an hour and a half. This comes after technical issues forced a ground stop on April 28th, leading to heavy backups. Best advice: call your airline first.
