(New York, NY) — NYPD cops in riot gear marched onto the Columbia University campus Tuesday night, to clear out anti-Israel protesters who had taken over a campus building. Columbia University’s President, Minouche Shafik asked the NYPD to step in after negotiations broke down with the protesters. It took officers about two hours to haul out all the demonstrators and arrest them. Police will remain on campus until graduation day which is May 15th.

Some students watching the police operation cheered them on, asking why it had not happened sooner. Columbia University has told the student protestors that they have been expelled from the Ivy-League school.

Some of the students arrested Tuesday night were cheered on as they were processed and then released by police on Wednesday morning. Those students were given court dates. Some complained about how officers treated them during the raid on Hamilton Hall. Others say the cuffs used on them were too tight.
