(Austin, TX) — Tesla is beginning mass layoffs across the country. The electric vehicle maker will be cutting over 33-hundred workers in California and nearly 27-hundred workers at its Tesla Headquarters Gigafactory in Texas. 693 employees in Nevada are also expected to be let go. The layoffs are reportedly due to declining sales and rising competition. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the company will slash its global workforce by ten-percent, impacting over 10-thousand employees.

Tesla reported its lowest quarterly earnings this week since 2021. Despite the report, shares soared after hours as the electric automaker suggested more affordable models are on the way. First quarter earnings fell 47 percent. Stock prices jumped more than ten percent to close out last week.
